What is Wholebeing Happiness?
SPIRE is a practical whole-person framework for understanding happiness, well-being, and human flourishing in real life.
Happiness isn’t just about feeling good. And let’s be real: it’s not about being happy all the time. That would be unrealistic, exhausting, and frankly… a little weird.
Wholebeing happiness is about creating the conditions that help us feel more grounded, connected, purposeful, and alive — even in the middle of busy days, messy moments, big transitions, and everyday life, at home and at work.
It’s not a destination. It’s a journey and a practice. Everyday.
That’s where SPIRE comes in. Developed by Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar, SPIRE is a practical, science-backed framework for human flourishing. It explores five interconnected dimensions of well-being:
Spiritual. Physical. Intellectual. Relational. Emotional.
These dimensions don’t exist in isolation. They work together. When one part of us is depleted, the others can feel it. When one part is nurtured, it can create a ripple effect across the whole person. SPIRE gives us a way to check in, pay attention, and take small meaningful actions that support happiness from the inside out.
Spiritual
Spiritual well-being is about feeling connected to what matters. It helps us explore meaning, live in alignment with our values, experience awe, and feel part of something bigger than ourselves.
Physical
Physical well-being reminds us that the body and mind are connected. Movement, rest, nourishment, recovery, and time in nature influence our recovery, energy, mood, and resilience.
Intellectual
Intellectual well-being is about staying open, curious, and engaged. It supports learning, creativity, adaptability, critical thinking, and the kind of playful exploration that helps us grow.
Relational
Relational well-being is about how we connect with ourselves through self-compassion, forgiveness, and mindset — and with others through belonging, love, communication, and connection.
Emotional
Emotional well-being is not about being positive all the time. It is about understanding, naming, and navigating the full range of human emotions with more honesty, compassion, and resilience.
